Skypark Cairns (AJ Hackett) - Giant Swing

“Can I do it again” were Charlie's first words after doing the Giant Swing at Skypark Cairns for the first time.

You certainly feel like once is not enough when you’ve completed this thrill ride. The scariest part if being hauled up to a starting position in the tree line which is almost on par with their Bungy Platform and then left waiting for the initial fall….

From there it's an ear splitting scream (well it was in my case) free fall until the swing picks up and swings you to way above the main operation centre at Skypark Cairns. And trust me you’re really moving!! They’ve clocked speeds of up to 100 km/hr in 3.5 seconds.

After several more swings you finally come to a stop, with your heart racing and your jaw aching from smiling too much and you realise, like my daughter, that one go is not enough….you HAVE to go again!

How HAPPY do these kids look!!!

Skypark Cairns is Australia’s only Bungy tower and although we weren’t up for the Bungy on the day we tried the next best thing, the Giant Swing. The tower is located in rainforest in a picturesque setting with a small lake and creek running through it. It’s worth visiting just for the views it gives you across North Cairns and out to the Great Barrier Reef (see my Blogpost – 4 Quick Climbs around Cairns).

BUT Beware, you might be bitten by the bug and want to give it a try too, just be prepared for the idea that once is not good enough, you might have to give it a second go ….
