Steer clear of the crowds and get to know the real TNQ…

Tropical North Queensland is a wonderful adventure playground and it’s here for everybody to enjoy, whatever age or nationality you may be.

This remarkable part of Australia is home to the oldest rainforest on earth, the world’s largest living organism and three world heritage sites, and that’s just the beginning...

100 Things To See In Tropical North Queensland showcases 100 of the best things to see when people travel to the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns, Port Douglas, the Daintree, the Cassowary Coast, Atherton Tablelands, Cape York and The Gulf Country (plus a few more the authors snuck in).

Inside, you’ll find 100 of the best places and things to see and do at the top of Queensland – from dream-like swimming holes to undisturbed rock-art galleries and outback adventures you’ll never forget…

Authors Catherine Lawson and David Bristow are adventure-loving locals who’ve spent their lives exploring their own little pieces of paradise…

“These are the places we return to again and again – unique, distinctly tropical, and bound to bring a smile to every tropical traveller”

100 Things To See In Tropical North Queensland is for anyone wanting to explore Tropical North Queensland like a local into the places off the regular tourist trails. It’s a guide about what to do and where to go, rather than where to sleep or who serves the hippest cocktails.

Catherine and David have been exploring the path less travelled for more than 20 years and specialise in guiding travellers to some of the wildest natural destinations on the planet. They have called Tropical North Queensland home for over two decades. Although, their home now is a yacht called Storyteller.

“Every time we fly back into Cairns and see those green hills and white strip of sand and just hugging the coastline, this opalescent sea, we just think there’s nowhere else in the world that’s this good. Some places have pretty beaches or a nice strip of reef, but they just aren’t as green and vibrant as TNQ. And it doesn’t matter what season it is, it’s always lush and gorgeous, and you can do whatever you want, outdoors, year-round. We’ve never found another place in the world that’s quite like that.”

They divide their time between exploring the reef under sail, or the land in their modified Toyota LandCruiser 4WD camper (it’s okay to hate them a little bit). They have an 8-year-old daughter, Maya, who, as-well-as being the youngest Australian to reach Everest base-camp, accompanies them on all their travels.

“Our kid’s lives so far have been rich with experiences – waterskiing, kayaking, tubing, horse-riding, ATV riding, fishing, camping – all thanks to living in Tropical North Queensland.  We LOVE living in Tropical North Queensland, Australia” - Kate Richards

If you’re visiting the region then this book is a MUST HAVE for every adventure travelling family.
